When I’m not on TV, you can find me wearing a ball cap with jeans and a t-shirt, or a button down with chinos. As a father to three energetic young boys, I need clothing that is durable and can withstand their rough and tumble play. On date nights, I like to smarten up the look with some dress slacks, and a collared shirt.
You’re a husband and father raising three boys, what experiences have you been able to share with them that are directly connected to your childhood in Chicago?
Occasionally my wife Morgan will bring the boys down to the studio to watch the newscast, then afterwards we will head to a restaurant to grab dinner as a family. It takes me back to when I was a kid, and my mom would do the same thing, take us downtown to meet up with my dad after his show. In fact, I posted a picture on Instagram of my boys on the NBC set, and then a picture of me on the CBS set. Working nights is tough on family life. You always miss out on sitting around the dinner table together. I’m grateful for my parents’ example of being creative and finding ways to make it work.
We’ve also taken the boys to the Museum of Science and Industry, which was my absolute favorite when I was a kid. They got a kick out of seeing the museum’s enormous model railroad, and the old United 727 hanging from the ceiling. I remember the day that jet landed at Meigs Field, and now my kids are onboard checking it out. Unreal!
