n the fall and winter months, my patients are asking, "Why does my skin feel so dry??" One easy answer that comes to mind is the climate change. The heat in the office and/or homes are now in full force. Couple that with lack of exfoliation and reduced hydration and you have your root causes of winter dry skin. The best advice I can give them no matter their skin type is to add Hyaluronic Acid to their regimen.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural glycosaminoglycan. The average human has approximately 15 grams of HA naturally, one third of which is turned over every day. HA is a "smart nutrient" as it can adjust its moisture absorption rate based on the season and the climate. As we age, skin hydration and moisture drop significantly, which causes the skin to lose elasticity and starts to expose signs of aging. By using a HA product, it helps plump out those fine lines, secures moisture and creates a fuller look. It's like giving your skin a drink of water from the outside.
