hat began as a profession that mastered the art of decorating, embracing form and function, has tremendously evolved into today’s world of highly specialized areas of interior design requiring many years of study and experience. In the early 20th Century, it was considered improper for women to work and many women lacked extensive education that many modern-day women are blessed with. These women were responsible for taking care of their home, raising a family, etc. and not commonly found in the workplace. The concept of a decorating profession at that time, allowed women with little to no academic backgrounds the ability to create a career merely from the combination of their natural talent, good taste, and common sense. While there are countless notable female decorators and designers who have transformed this profession over the past 100+ years, this article highlights some of the trailblazers and how they changed the industry.
