Lauren: What inspired you to become a designer?

Cori: During class, some people doodle when they’re not paying attention, and I would sit there and draw dolls. I’d keep them, and other classmates would always ask me, “What have you made now? What are you making next?” I never stopped, I kept going, and next thing you know it was my senior year of high school, and everyone’s like, “What do we do next? Where do we go for college?” I saw a commercial advertising going to school for fashion and design, and I thought, “Oh! You can actually do that?!”

Lauren: How does your brand stand out from other brands?

Cori: I’m more of a technical designer. I’m not a designer that reigns on the fabric. My designs are definitely about the techniques. I’m not a trendy designer either. I don’t like trends or fads. I love a good design, a good concept, that can last and can come out season after season.

Lauren: What is one of the techniques you use in

your designs?

Cori: I love pleats! I’m obsessed with

pleats! Then it’s like beyond the pleats,

what shape can it be? Almost like

origami. How many ways can we

twist this fabric up and how cool

can it be?

Lauren: Do you have designer

influences or inspirations?

Cori: My influence would be the House of Missoni, just because they’ve been around for so long and all the family members work there for the most part. I’m hoping I can leave a legacy for my kids so they will eventually want to be in the “Cori Brand” and take it on further. I’m hoping, fingers crossed!

Lauren: Where do you see your brand growing in the future?

Cori: I’m hoping people can depend on the Cori Davis brand to be timeless and classy. Whatever they need, they can come to this brand.

Lauren: You’re wearing a lot of glitter right now? Will we be seeing a lot of glitter in this collection?

Cori: I am a fan of sparkle! I also love something bold and statement wise. I love something masculine, but that says, “hey let’s not forget, I’m still a woman.” Just like sweatpants, how can we glam it up a little bit? Add the sequins!

Lauren: How would you describe the brand personality?

Cori: I would definitely say, fun. Whatever mood you’re in, you can find a piece to wear. It’s a fun brand though, not so somber. Not everything is in black. We’ll take a chance on a bold color.
