It’s a weekday morning in London, as I casually stroll to work I’m surrounded by the click clapping of commuters briskly walking on concrete floor of the subway train station. Swarms of men in fancy corporate looking work shoes, sounding more like a gaggle of girls in high heels. The shoe colours are simple with blacks and different shades of browns, yet all are properly clean. A few feet I notice are wearing some cool trainers, but this seems more fitting on a Friday. Looking to women’s foot attire, I notice they’re very diverse. Heels, ranging from high to low; an array of boots, from ankle low to knee high, in styles ranging from riding boot, sexy stiletto to even edgy punk.
As I continue along my journey I see most every man in slacks of dark blue, black, gray or khaki coloured. A lot of the women brave the cold wearing only black nylons and pencil skirts, or dressy rompers. I give them much credit for being so fashionable in London’s harsh cold weather.
Here in London, women’s makeup is always on point. The look of being sun kissed with bronzer on their cheeks and a heavy liner to accent their alluring long lashes. Jewelry is a must as I see almost every woman’s hand sparkling in a unique gem. The men dazzle with their stylish watches, and ever so fresh hair cuts, clean and tight on the sides, with a bit of length gelled over to the one direction.
Most everyone keeps warm in a smart looking, long black jacket, with a scarf to complete the UK business look. As I stand on the train, holding on to the handle above for balance, I observe my fellow Londoners, feeling as if I am the off-centered centerpiece to an elegant table, all I can do is smile. A recent transplant from the USA standing out in the crowd wearing a bright pink jacket, rainbow scarf, and colourful boots. I am always learning throughout my travels, dress to make yourself happy and feel good, dress for success, or dress to make yourself smile. With confidence you can fit in anywhere. Despite not exactly fitting in, I am enjoying myself in this beautiful city of classic fashion and looking forward to what’s in store for summer season.
To sum up my fashion appreciation for the Monday through Friday Londoners, I tip my hat to the clean cut, handsome gentlemen of the city, dressed nicely from the shoes up to the hair cut. But my hat is off to the ladies of London, pulling off a little more unique diversity within their style statement, classy yet still a little sassy. And for me, I’ll stay warm and forever colourful!
