Hats and Head Decor
From wide-brimmed sun hats and safari style hats to top hats borrowed straight from the Mad Hatter himself, people brought their A-game with head decor. This was a beautiful display of multipurpose fashion. In the heat of the southern Costa Rican sun, protecting your head and face is paramount, and the hats certainly weren’t lacking in their ability to make a statement.
Headpieces for the ladies were also very popular. Lots of gold. Think boho, bohemian, Indian, flower child and gypsy; all sources of inspiration for the headpieces that ranged from simple and cute to eclectic and ornate.
Leather Utility Belts
Just to give you an idea of how big these are, if you type in “festival belt,” on Etsy, you’ll find 19 pages of options. The fanny pack of festivals! Think about it, you’re bouncing around from yoga to vendors then to lunch and from stage to stage - you need your hands free to dance or to lend your artistic talents to community murals. Functional and fashion forward, it was cool to see the wide variety of belts adorning people.
Strappy and Stringy Sandals
From head to toe, people were decorated. I saw a lot of foot candy - some of which looked downright complicated and some that looked about as comfortable as it gets. Strappy sandals going up the leg to the knee were popular. I was also intrigued by a number of people wearing sandals made out of rope - men and women. I learned for the first time about a brand called Nomadic State of Mind. After checking them out online, it’s no surprise to me that these are popular among festival goers. Not only did a few people tell me they are the most comfortable shoes they own, but the company is dedicated to safe, responsible and sustainable production - all the feels.
