and mind. When I was younger, I think I associated comfort mostly with physical things. But after going through difficult periods in life, like divorce, financial struggles, and starting over professionally, my definition changed.
Now comfort means creating a life that feels safe, calm, authentic, and grounding. It’s the people around you, your home environment, your routines, your dogs curled up next to you, meaningful conversations, and feeling accepted exactly as you are.
PeachSkinSheets is also known for its color variety. Why was it important for you to bring color into bedding?
I’ve always believed that your bedroom should make you feel something. For so long, the bedding industry treated bedrooms as if they had to be beige, gray, or completely neutral to feel elegant. But people crave personality, warmth, and joy in their homes, and color has the ability to completely change the mood of a room. It can feel calming, uplifting, cozy, playful, romantic, or comforting.
Looking back, was there a moment where you realized PeachSkinSheets was really connecting with people?
There have been a few moments over the years, but I think one of the biggest was when customers started telling us they could never sleep on anything else again. That’s when I realized we weren’t just selling sheets; we were becoming part of people’s routines, comfort, and everyday lives.
You built this company through some really difficult seasons of your life. What do you hope people take away from your story about starting over?
Starting over isn’t easy, especially when life doesn’t go according to plan. I built PeachSkinSheets during one of the darkest and arguably hardest seasons of my life: after divorce, financial struggles, layoffs, and a lot of uncertainty. There were many moments when I didn’t know how I was going to provide for my children, yet I kept moving forward one step at a time. What I hope people take away from my story is that setbacks do not define you. They can actually become the foundation for your greatest comeback.
What stays with me most about my conversation with Karen Levine is her resilience and willingness to keep moving forward, even during life’s most difficult moments. For a travel issue centered around exploration and meaningful experiences, Karen’s story serves as a reminder that not all journeys involve boarding a plane or discovering somewhere new. Sometimes the most transformative journeys happen when life forces you to start over. Throughout our conversation, Karen returned to the idea that comfort goes beyond bedding. It’s about creating spaces, routines, and relationships that make us feel grounded, whether we’re returning home from a trip or navigating uncertainty in everyday life. From building a company at her kitchen table to helping people create bedrooms that feel restorative, Karen’s story shows that the places and experiences we remember most often are the ones that make us feel cared for, comfortable, and connected.
