On the Scene

Tell me about being a woman and a Mondavi in this industry.

I grew up in a world, obviously with my last name Mondavi, it's very male dominated in my family. I'm the first female winemaker in my family so I did experience what it was like being a woman versus being a male. My main focus is I'm a winemaker first and foremost and I'm not a female winemaker. I want to be recognized amongst all my peers as the same. I try not to focus on that background noise that's going on. I don't want to dismiss anyone's feelings because my experience is different. I think it's important to recognize that the women in the wine industry are definitely coming out and they're definitely a little bit more vocal and we're also putting our foot down and saying enough is

enough. We're women, we are a little bit different, but it doesn't matter. We are making just as good a wine as the person next door that might be a male.

What are your hopes and dreams for Harrow Cellars?

Oh, my gosh! Well first and foremost the wine. The first wine is actually made so we accomplished that which is really exciting! And the second is we are going to be revitalizing the winery [which was] the former Ravenswood property here in

Sonoma. We’re also focusing on implementing our wastewater management system which will be worms! It minimizes the amount of electricity that we're using. They run 24 hours because they are living things! Hopefully by 2022 we will have a full-blown winery up and running. And hopefully our tasting rooms will be opened by then.
