life and taking to the road to expand your mind and move beyond your usual perceptions. Travelling has a way of making you abundantly grateful for the simple things in life. To be rested, fed, and wearing relatively clean clothes - these are precious treasures when you're travelling the highways and byways of America.

The road is the great equalizer. Well, except for those people in the self-leveling RV’s; they have a distinct advantage over the rest of us. But personally, I wouldn’t trade my orange leveling blocks for a case of cheap beer anyway. Ah Americana; it’s something distinctly us that is best appreciated from behind the dash, preferably of an old Chevy houseboat-on-wheels, an RV.

Like many people unable to live their usual life last summer - and like thousands more will do this summer - we took to the open road to open our minds.

Here’s an excerpt from our travel blog, “Doo West Adventures,” a play off our son Doolin’s joyfully unique name. (Origin: Doolin is a beautiful little town in Ireland.)

We chose to traverse the backroads and experienced peace and beauty on the path suggested by a favorite travel resource, the website Scenic Byways. We cast off on Independence Day with no reservations and a very loose plan. Our first night we celebrated our Freedom under a full moon on the eastern shore of the Mississippi, in the river town of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
