“Take care of your brain, it’s the only one you’ll have.”

he brain is the only unique and

irreplaceable organ in the human

body. It plays a role in all of our functions, controlling many organs, thoughts, memory, speech, movements and is the seat of our personality. Although the brain accounts for only 2% of body weight on average, it utilizes about 20% of calories. Because it’s so energy-intensive, it’s critical for your brain to have an ample energy supply to maintain optimal functioning. When it doesn’t work right, it really changes our ability to operate and interact with the external world.

That’s where “Chicago’s NeuroDoc” Dr. Lenny Cohen comes in. As one of the few neurologists in the country who uses a combined approach of both traditional medicine with alternative therapy, Dr. Cohen’s primary interest and focus of his practice is brain wellness, performance and longevity.

In recognition of June being Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, Dr. Cohen is speaking out on the importance of brain health and on understanding the preventative treatments that can be implemented in a person’s 40’s and 50’s to possibly prolong, delay or prevent diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, the general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. While it accounts for 60 -80% percent of dementia cases, Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. with an estimated 5.8 million Americans, age 65 and older, living with it in 2020.
