Cabo or one of our last dinner parties in BK (Brooklyn, NY) or LA. I started to feel it was necessary to have more Facetime with my girls over some cocktails. So, I created a Zoom account and started my “Weekly Huzzies Happy Hour During Coronavirus 2020” call on April 2nd. I invited a few friends that live in LA, NY, Chicago and Florida. There is no formal agenda. More so a catch up to talk, listen, have some cocktails and then realize 4 hours later, this was a much-needed safe space to laugh and to look forward to each week. We celebrated my favorite holiday Cinco De Mayo; we have had discussions about everything from vibrators to which Cuomo brother is hotter. And most importantly, we are present to also know when a friend is in need. This is a judgment-free zone to speak your mind and let others know when you feel down.
We all have had our moments during this stay-at-home order, where we are frustrated and uncertain about so many things. The comfort of this weekly happy hour is to check-in with your girlfriends and continue to live your life during a pandemic.
After all, time flies when you are having fun. So, with June being the summer travel kick-off month, maybe help your friends “getaway” weekly with a Zoom happy hour. Best of all drinks are the best deal in town, at home. Create a list of possible themes to keep it fresh. We will all get to travel and see the world, but in this time of reflection of our closest relationships, nurture your need to have Facetime, laugh, and connect. Hopefully soon we will look back at all of this and see how it changed us for the better.
