While homeschooling, I realized quickly I had developed an affinity for midday Palomas. It became of utmost importance to get to food markets at 8am, cloaked in head to toe hazmat gear, to avoid the rush and make sure not only that the food pantry/freezer was stocked but more importantly, my liquor cabinet. Our home was already our sanctuary, but now it was also where all social communication took place. Nothing like your favorite afterwork spot for oysters and brut rose or even impromptu sushi simply because you just wanted to sit at the bar and be in your own space. When would I ever get to go back to KazuNori?!

Life had temporarily changed, not just for me or my kids, but everyone. Still reeling after Kobe Bryant’s shocking death, Coronavirus came when we least expected it and kept on swinging while none of us were prepared for it. When it was obvious my yearly springtime Palm Springs Girl’s Weekend would not happen, or our much-anticipated post-school trip with family friends to Puerto Vallarta, we knew we were going to have to adjust to being home…as a family. This virus was forcing us to deal with everything around us at one time. I knew I would need an outlet.
