The Publishing House B&B blends the best parts of a B&B experience, the small staff, personal touches, breakfast and home-style hospitality with the amenities of a boutique hotel. There are few truly urban B&B’s, and even fewer that have been developed in a loft-style apartment. They like to think of the B&B as being like home but only much better. The 3 levels boast 11 en-suite rooms, 3 Cozy Queens, 3 Medium Kings, 3 Large Kings and an additional 3 XL King rooms on level 3.

Our guest room was comfortable, cozy, modern, inviting, sexy and romantic. The entire building is elegantly and perfectly designed, and the common area coaxes you into lounging all morning or afternoon. Both Shawn and Kimberly man the kitchen themselves, and breakfast was exceptionally ridiculous, as I was tempted to ask for seconds. Soda, water, and fresh baked goods are available to grab as snacks in the common area as well. At night, if you want to grab a bite and enjoy a glass of wine or a craft cocktail, head directly downstairs. The Press Room, also owned by Shawn and Kimberly, is an intimate wine bar on the lower level that perfectly complements the upstairs bed and breakfast. The atmosphere is chilled yet vibrant and the décor is vintage yet hip. We indulged in a libation and appetizer before heading out on the town for dinner.

Publishing House is not only great for tourists or those traveling to Chicago for business, but also for families of local residents, wedding parties and local corporate business. My wife and I are looking forward to another staycation away from our boys, as there is an age restriction for kids staying in the bed and breakfast. Pricing varies from $149/night +tax for the least expensive room on a slow mid-weeknight to $425/night for their largest room on a busy weekend. Book online through their direct web portal publishinghousebnb.com or through online travel agents like Expedia and Booking.com. After your stay, I’m confident you will agree that this is not your typical mom and dad’s bed and breakfast. Publishing House B&B is located at 108 N. May Street, Chicago, IL 60607.
