House and Pet Sitting – Another way to travel the world is by House and Pet Sitting. Not only is it great for the solo traveler, it can work for couples and families. Most times a house sitter will meet with the homeowner several hours or even a couple days before the owner leaves. They will let you know some of their favorite spots and things to do in the area. They may even introduce you to some of their friends or family members as option of going out with them if you don’t always want to be on your own. Keep in mind though, with house and pet sitting you do have several responsibilities while you are there.

Meetup Groups – The company Meetup has thousands of meetup groups all over the world, possibly hundreds of thousands (I have no idea exactly). You can find groups from learning to dance, writing, sailing, running, yoga, partying, and learning a new language just

to name a few.

So, if you are

traveling alone

and want to

meet people,

check out the

meetup groups

and find people

who have the

same interests

as you.

Co-Working

Spaces – If you

are traveling

either short-

term or long-

term, most cities

have available

co-working

spaces. Fees

may be hourly,

daily, weekly, or

monthly, so you

will want to

check out a few just to see what they offer. Meetup has some co-working groups as well and here in Barcelona, I’ve joined a co-working meetup group. We have regulars who have relocated here from various cities around the world and come twice a week. Many others join us anywhere from a only few times to several depending on how long they are in Barcelona. Co-working spaces are a great opportunity to get some work done and meet new people.

Use Airbnb – Hosts are great for helping you get to know the location where you are staying. They are almost always willing to give you tips and let you know about some great local places that you may have not otherwise found. Airbnb now has several ‘experiences’ you can also book where you can meet locals and tourists. I use Airbnb a ton, so much so that I have my own affiliate link. If you're new to Airbnb, you can receive a $44 credit when signing up through my link.

Just because you are going on a trip to a new place by yourself, does not mean that you need to be alone. Solo travel is one of the best ways to do some things alone yet still meet other interesting people from around the world. Don’t waste your time waiting for others to join you. Go and join others who are doing the same thing.
