decorated space made your mouth water and your knees go weak. Succulent octopus, savory barbecue wraps, sweet Bananas Foster, and scrumptiously rich chocolate cakes were just the beginning of this tasting. Wines from all over the world were poured in generous amounts and creative cocktails were shaken and stirred for everyone’s consumption. But that’s not all. Local chefs-in-training skillfully performed surgery upon a cantaloupe to create a graceful swan under the keen eye of their instructor. It was a jam-packed afternoon full of flavor and fun.

Educational seminars, wine cellar tours, and even a bit of bar-hopping were all a part of NOWFE, but no trip to The Big Easy would be complete without dining at the legendary and iconic restaurant Commander’s Palace. This throw-back to a bygone era of chivalry and elegance still lives up to its reputation as one of the best restaurants in the country. Emeril Lagasse and Paul Prudhomme both began here and given the unique combination of flavors and almost indescribably perfect dishes presented, the current chef, Tory McPhail will also become a household name. The restaurant has seven unique dining rooms including a private wine cellar dining area and a chef’s table in the kitchen which is booked months in advance. The attention to detail, stellar wine list, and personalized creations made this six-time James Beard Award winner a standout dining experience. Classic southern dishes all had a signature style that made dishes like scallops and turtle soup as memorable as your first kiss. And I’ve never had a better strawberry shortcake in my life. Trust me, I’ve made and tasted more than I can count! Creme brulee, cheesecake, and classic bread pudding were all equally delectable, putting the proverbial icing on the cake. If you missed out this year, be sure to mark your calendar for next year! It’s a food and wine fete like no other, ya’ll!
