The book and subsequent movie, WILD, starring Reece Witherspoon, inspired thousands of couch potatoes to appreciate the outdoors and its challenges by trekking and camping along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) last year. Yours truly did just such a thing, returning to normal life with a renewed outlook and recharged life-batteries.
