There are risks in everything we do. As mundane as getting in our car and driving to work, or as adventurous as skydiving. But we can’t just stop going to work, can we? Nor should we stop fulfilling our passions and desires or checking off those thrilling bucket list items.
So what to do? Do your best to prevent danger, and just live.
In the case of Zika, wear bug repellent. Don’t go hiking through dense woods or near stagnant bodies of water particularly at dawn or dusk or after a good rain.
For confidence and information, better than anything you could read online, network among friends and family or travel forums, and TALK TO PEOPLE who have recently been where you’d like to go. There’s no better source of information than straight from the horse’s mouth.
Don’t cancel or avoid travel plans.
After all, the likelihood of you regretting not seeing a new country and culture is far more than your likelihood of contracting Zika or dying in a terrorist attack. While unfortunate circumstances are possible, it’s true, the bottom line is that the chances of them affecting your life personally are so slim, it would be a travesty to allow them to control your travel decisions.
