opportunity to teach some of these brave individuals who snuck out of their houses to come take our dance workshops. They have no access to traditional schools that offer more technical foundations; they simply let their spirits move them. I sometimes take my work for granted and my journey to this point has been easy compared to their struggles. I thought, “this is a group of people who stand up for what they love, and it is a beautiful thing to behold.” The amount of respect I have for them is tremendous, and in turn, I feel a responsibility to represent their voices within my own work. They generously gave me a glimpse into their lives, and thus a fire was lit within myself to return home with a greater goal to approach my work with increased joy and abandon. I wish to embody and honor the people I was so lucky to meet.

On a recent trip to New York City, the abundance of temptation to ignore work and explore was daunting.
