You’ll need:

A good quality Camera - I use a Nikon D7100 and my favourite lens is a 40mm Micro.

A very sturdy, durable but lightweight tripod that you can carry over your shoulder.

Self-timer - Now you can either buy a wireless remote or set the self-timer on your camera, I prefer the second option as you can also set how many pictures you want the camera to take, and how many seconds in between shots. This is perfect when climbing and you need your hands free.

Bag - You don’t want to be hiking around in the woods or walking up river banks in your heels, so make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Think Safety - When it comes to location shooting on your own, you may be carrying a lot of gear and it’s easy to miss a step or lose your balance. Always let someone know where you are going and when you will be back.

Confidence - Honestly the amount of odd looks I get taking pictures of myself, by myself… Well you can imagine! Just pretend they are not there.

One of the positives to taking pictures of yourself, especially if no one is a round, is that you can really relax and work the camera, the downside is you will need to take loads of photos!! Over half of them will more than likely turn out blurry, because you don’t have someone manually auto focusing them.

Lighting - For best pictures, take them outside in natural daylight and apply your make up much more heavily than you would normally so that is shows up on camera.

I tend to do a lot of mine in my garden, that way I feel safe, relaxed, but it nice to get out mix things up a bit!

There are some great post on how to pose and take a flattering picture, no matter what your body shape is! – So just get out there and have some fun!

I hope you like these tips. Please let me know how they worked for you!
