feels like

forever, I'm giving myself permission to have a month with no commitments.

Just writing those words feels weirdly rebellious.

As mothers, wives, daughters, friends and businesswomen, we're conditioned to fill every square of our calendars. We RSVP before checking how we feel. We volunteer. We host. We organize. We become the keeper of everyone's schedules while quietly forgetting to ask ourselves what we actually want.

But this July, I'm choosing something different.

My three children have reached an age where they don't need me in quite the same way they once did. Of course, they'll always need me.. they're my babies, no matter how tall they grow, but the constant dependence has softened. They can make their own breakfast, entertain themselves, spend time with friends and enjoy a little independence of their own.

And with that has come an unexpected gift: Getting back to my true self.

For years, my identity has been beautifully intertwined with motherhood. It has been the greatest privilege of my life, but somewhere along the way, pieces of me were gently tucked away. The woman who read novels on sunny afternoons. The one who wandered through farmers' markets without checking the time. The one who could sit with a coffee that was still hot and simply watch the world go by.

This summer, I'd like to meet her again.

There's something about July that invites us to slow down. The evenings stretch endlessly, gardens bloom without asking for applause, and meals somehow taste better when they're eaten outdoors. Nature never rushes, yet somehow everything gets done.

I think there's a lesson in that.

We've become so accustomed to measuring our worth by our productivity that slowing down can feel uncomfortable, even indulgent. But maybe rest isn't something we earn after exhaustion. Maybe it's something we deserve simply because we're human.

So I've decided that July won't be about ticking boxes or racing from one obligation to the next. It will be about saying no without guilt. Reading books that have been gathering dust on my bedside table. Long walks with no destination. Last-minute picnics. Watching sunsets instead of television. Saying yes to the girls trip. And saying yes to that wine.

Most importantly, it will be about creating space. Space to

think, to dream, to notice, and to find true peace.

Ironically, I suspect these slower moments will become the ones I remember most. Rarely do we look back on life and cherish the days we answered the most emails or squeezed in the most appointments. We remember laughter around a garden table, the warmth of the evening sun on our skin, children running barefoot across the grass, and the deep exhale that comes when we realize we don't have to be anywhere else.

Maybe July doesn't need to be filled to be full.

If you're anything like me, maybe this is your invitation too. To leave a few blank spaces in your diary. To resist the urge to over-plan. To rediscover the woman you were before life became so wonderfully busy.

Because sometimes, the most meaningful commitment we can make is the one we make to ourselves.

Here's to a slower July.
