The 'Skincare Routine' for Your Business Finances
BY CHRISTINA MOORE
ust like a good skincare routine
has daily/weekly/monthly steps,
your business finances need a
simple recurring "routine". While listing out the entire finance routine can come across as overwhelming, breaking the process down into individual steps can highlight where in the financial routine your pain point is instead of writing off the entire finance process as too scary.
The first step is checking your bank account balance daily. This step isn’t about putting pen to paper, it’s just demystifying your numbers and maybe taking the fear out of checking on your numbers. This is your daily step, much like a double cleanse at the end of the night is a great place to start with skincare. Think of this as a 30 second daily habit to build awareness with minimal effort.
Now that we are comfortable with a quick daily habit, the next step is a little more intentional - you’ve checked your bank balances daily but now we need to contextualize the numbers. Observe what money is coming in versus going out. Are there any charges that do not make sense? Is the timing off between money coming in versus going out that you need to highlight and understand? This is a great step to getting curious about your cash flow and view it from a few different angles. This is a more weekly step versus your daily one, like using an extra strong toner or exfoliator, maybe some red-light therapy. While you may see more results using this step in your skincare routine, it’s not necessarily something you would do daily.
