For readers who may be discovering The Comfort Club for the first time, can you tell us about the community and the heart behind it?
The Comfort Club was created because I learned firsthand that grief doesn't have an expiration date.
After losing my dad unexpectedly 22 years ago, I found myself longing for a place where it was still okay to talk about him, share stories, ask questions, laugh, cry, and simply be understood. I realized so many others were longing for that same kind of community.
That's why we created The Comfort Club through Together at Peace.
Every month, we gather to encourage one another, honor the people we love, and remind each other that grief doesn't have to be walked alone.
One of the things we talk about often is what I call Memory Moments. They're the meaningful moments we create or receive that help us feel connected to the people we love and to the God who holds all of us. Sometimes it's a family tradition. Sometimes it's hearing a favorite song at just the right time.
Sometimes it's simply sitting outside and feeling the sun on your face.
My hope is that everyone leaves feeling a little lighter, a little more hopeful, and reminded that God is with them every step of the journey. Believing in the love we can no longer see helps us open our hearts to see their love in a new way.
