You’ve had at least two different jerseys retired, selected as a major league All-Star, have a stadium named after you, and played 16 seasons in the MLB. What 3 things are you most proud of and what more are you looking to accomplish over the next five years?

Getting my college degree while playing professional baseball is #1 on the list. At the time, only about 40-50 of the 750 active MLB players had a degree—and I was one of them.

Achieving my dream of having an MLB career! Being able to focus and find a way to do all the things that no one thought I could do—and I did them for a long time at the Major League level.

Lastly, I wanted to travel the world and I was able to do that by playing and promoting the great game of baseball.

Moving forward, I want to be able to help young people achieve their goals and dreams— leading by example, connecting people to resources and opportunities and motivating anyone to keep going and finish what they start. A lot of times when people quit, they are so close to being successful, but can’t see it. I’m living proof that if you don’t quit, dreams can come true.
