Having been a minority owner of the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League, undoubtedly you are a huge supporter for women’s sports. Share the top three things needed to be done to continue to propel women sports ahead in the future.
1) More coverage! Coverage of women’s sports makes up just 15% of sport media. With more inventory than ever (new leagues, more games on television or streaming) we’ll hopefully see more coverage, too. 2) Better coverage! Make sure informed voices are leading the way on women’s sports coverage so the audience gets smart, informed, nuance takes on the games and athletes. 3) Invest in women’s sports just like you do men’s–mainly, believing in its potential and seeing its growth, instead of hedging bets or making small moves. Think of women’s leagues like you would a start-up company; instead of investing less, then worrying when there isn’t immediate ROI, put in more and believe in the product, allowing for the investment to help propel growth and show value. Stop giving women a dollar and men five dollars then asking why the men are doing better.
