As an outspoken, unapologetic nationally recognized personality, explain some of the challenges you’ve overcame, and the progress women have made in sports journalism.
I’ve faced all the challenges you’ve likely heard about when it comes to being a woman in a male-dominated space. Sexual harassment, disrespect, condescension, lack of opportunities, unfair assumptions and stereotypes, toxic workplace environments… and I could go on. Thankfully I’m blessed with great mental health and a natural ability to swim upstream and fight against inequity and unfair treatment. I’ve always known I belong. I’ve always known I’ve got something meaningful to say and an important perspective to add to the conversation. Thankfully there are so many more women in every space now, from the owner’s suite to color and play-by-play, coaching, analyzing and everywhere in between. The youngest and most vulnerable will likely still have to deal with the same crap the rest of us did, but hopefully they have more allies and outlets to help support them and make sure they stick with it than we did years ago when I got started.
