The Best
4 Independent Movie Theaters
in America

verly-salted popcorn,
the quiet hum of an
ICEE machine, and
the careful calculations that go into sneaking candy past the person sitting in the box office that couldn't care less about the milk duds spilling out of your pocket, are all staples in the movie theater experience. An experience that one and all can share together and appreciate is one of the most timeless pastimes we still cherish. There is nothing like going to the theater. While the temptations and teases of the couch that perfectly placed in front of the TV in your living room threaten the livelihood of theaters, it still can't quite capture the magic of the cinema.
However, as a society, we have begun to lose the conviction that once came with the idea of leaving the house to see a movie. We need to be stirred from our homes by something more than a regular theater, something more unique, something worth visiting, something like an independent theater. Independent theaters were once the only way to watch silent movies and were once again brought back into the hearts of the public in the 1940s and their final most dramatic resurgence came in the 90s. Their aim in the 90s was to act as an outlet for creatives in the film industry to express their, often unappreciated ideas. These were often political, social, or simply out of the ordinary thoughts that needed to be expressed. However, the art of independent theater is dying, and its revival potentially holds the entirety of the film industry in its hands. Every independent theater deserves to be recognized, but here is a list of some of the best throughout the U.S.A.
