Every time I venture outside, to the store, a restaurant, or on a bike ride, I am reminded of what our world is going through. Face masks, hand sanitizer, and social distancing are starting to be our new norm. Most of us are following the rules, but we are still in the woods as it relates to this pandemic not even close to being over. I am also still seeing protests for George Floyd, Black Lives Matter and more people standing up for those that are being treating wrong in our communities and society. I was happy to see that the NFL’s Washington team will change their name amidst pressure from their advertisers and was ecstatic to learn that NASCAR banned the Confederate Flag from their races. Bubba Wallace is my new hero. With the pandemic and social justice issues at the forefront I have noticed trends happening.

People are now having fun with masks by creating and buying stylish face wear to match their outfits or to simply just stand out. Also, folks are motivated to make a change in black and brown communities and are giving back in many ways. These are good trends that I welcome and hope they continue, although I honestly cannot wait until face masks are no longer required. My point is that even though circumstances appear to be bleak at times there are some positive things that are coming from them.

In this month’s issue we highlight a few of those positive trends and more. I hope you are able to find a few pearls in this issue and use them as motivation to make a positive change as well. Enjoy FLM July.
