There are moments in life when a reset isn’t just helpful, it’s necessary. As we step into a new year, I keep coming back to the idea that resetting isn’t a sign of failure; it’s a strategy for success. And yes, as I prepare to watch my Chicago Bears compete in the NFL playoffs, football feels like the perfect metaphor. Coaches don’t call timeouts only in the final seconds of a game. They call them in the first quarter too—when something feels off, when the team isn’t in sync, when they need to pause, regroup, and get back on the same page.

We’ve all watched games where the quarterback and receivers aren’t connecting, the defense keeps blowing coverages, and momentum starts slipping away. That’s when the coach steps in and calls a timeout. During that pause, responsibilities are clarified, the game plan is revisited, and the strategy is reinforced to put everyone in the best position to succeed. The coach recognizes that a brief pause can calm players down, refocus everyone, and get the energy back on the field.

If you’re coming off a tough year, a reset can be the most powerful move you make. Reflecting on the year behind you is good. Letting go of what weighed you down is better. But adopting a positive mindset and recommitting to your goals for 2026 is best. None of us know exactly how the “game” will unfold, but like a great coach, we can prepare ourselves for different scenarios. A star player going down mid-game can feel like losing a major client. A costly interception might look like a key team member leaving for a competitor. Even the fans booing from the stands can mirror disgruntled clients.

The path to success will always come with challenges. What matters most is how we respond. When things feel out of pace, it’s okay to call a timeout. To pause. To reset. Because that reset is what allows you to rise as the game continues.

In this January issue of Fete Lifestyle Magazine, themed Reset & Rise, we spotlight actress, writer, producer, and studio owner Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, who is doing exactly that—resetting the narrative around entertainment and building something bold, intentional, and rooted in opportunity. You’ll also find practical, usable lifestyle insights from our contributors designed to support you throughout the year ahead.

Here’s to knowing when to pause, having the ability to reset, and allowing yourself to rise, no matter what quarter you’re in.
