Club Lounge which boasts stunning views of both Lake Michigan, Chicago River, and of course architecture. This along with three culinary presentations, and the feeling of being pampered make Club Lounge a worthy addition to any stay. Our Housekeeping team, impossible to overstate their contribution to the hotel; it’s so much more than what we think – changing linen etc. They are true champions in facets of your stay often not noticed, but critical in importance. Lastly, most guests don’t realize The Langham Chicago has over 300 original artworks done by some of the best artists/designers in the world; Jamue Plensa, Anish Kapoor, Ju Ming, and local giants like David Klamen, and Judy Ledgerwood painted one of my favorites located on our second floor. QUALITY PEOPLE, It’s the dealbreaker!
What have been the most unusual requests that you’ve heard from guests at the concierge desk?
Last year I had a couple of guests training for a marathon ask if I knew anyone that would run 7 miles with them, they didn’t know the city. Having completed eight Chicago Marathon’s myself and in the middle of half marathon training, this one was a no brainer for me in the best way. I met them early next morning at sunup, and designed/ran a 7-mile route that essentially doubled as a visual sightseeing tour. When we got back, we had electrolyte beverages and a banana for them. It was great and I got some free miles in.
Another request happened right after we opened. The Langham a guest asked for a specific bottle of wine not able to be shipped here on short notice, not sold in Illinois, but available in Wisconsin. We got a phone call from Timo Nequin who was an incredible concierge here with us for a time, who says he is in Wisconsin picking up the bottle from a purveyor on his off day.
