Explain what inspired you to pursue a career as a concierge.
Simplistic thinking based on fantasy and partial truths; “I like to dine at restaurants, I go out etc. so surely I’ll be great.” I found out VERY quickly this approach was hilariously off base for the breadth of what a true hotel Concierge does encompasses a world of additional responsibilities; most less glamourous I dare say but a big part of the guest experience, transportation, itineraries, lost passports etc.! Ultimately, I found the idea of affecting guest perceptions of what Chicago is, was, and can be in their mind’s incredibly appealing. In the beginning I had no idea of how to ‘put it together’ but was blessed to locate and retain people I looked up to, that were supportive. My old Chef Concierges, Catherine Davids, Deborah Sawyer, Kathy McClanathan, and Victor Colon, all were crucial to my development in a myriad of ways. I owe them great gratitude for their guidance, patience, and belief in my potential.
