What are several of the latest kitchen trends that are found within a city or suburban kitchen?
Technology
The city kitchen is a tech kitchen. It’s the perfect VIP feeling for that 9-5 working client. Most appliances and lighting in this kitchen are connected right to your phone. Need your oven pre-heated while making your way home? No problem, DONE! Want to have the dim lights and music arriving when you walk in the door – again no problem. The tech kitchen is truly customized to the schedule and interest of an urban homeowner.
One of the coolest developments in the appliance world fits right into designing kitchens for an urban setting where counterspace is at a premium. A newly designed induction style cooktop actually mounts to the underside of the countertop and allows the homeowner to cook directly on the countertop surface! The appliance itself is totally out of sight! The beauty of this is that when you are not cooking, you have full use of the countertop space that would normally be taken up by a 30” or 36” cooktop. I don’t expect this style of appliance to make a splash in the suburbs, but it will be a game-changer in city kitchens.
Show it off
The suburban kitchen remains the heart of the home. The kitchen is clearly the centerpiece of the suburban house. More and more clients want to show off that space. The high-end stainless-steel appliances are not necessarily being covered up with matching cabinetry wood. The mini fridge in the island offers a guest quick access to a drink without possibly invading the disorganized main fridge. Clients are also more open to display glass cabinetry that allows them to showcase their plates and glassware.
