She reached out to me later that night to thank me for what I had said because it had really resonated with her and that she was going to replay it over in her head whenever she started to get a little nervous.
It took me years to embrace this mentality, but it is so important. I always focus on organizing my life (whatever that entails at the moment) when I have the time, knowing the busy season is always just around the corner. If you can stay focused on setting yourself up for the future rather than spend your time stressing about being slow, you’ll be prepared when the rush hits, which it will!
My Januarys are now jam packed with closet cleanses, closet organizations, and full-on closet merchandising. It is the perfect time of year to make your closet a sanctuary that you smile walking into and get excited to “shop” every day! My clients always tell me that their closet organization goals get put to the bottom of their “to-do” list until they just become unmanageable (which is where I step in). January is the perfect time to cross that item off your list so that you can enter the year ready to take on the world. It’s amazing what a little purge and organization can do for the mind and spirit.
This year I put together a list of questions to get you started on making some major wardrobe changes that will make all the difference in the world when it comes to loving your style. Whether you’re looking to purge, get inspired, or upgrade your entire wardrobe this year, these simple questions are the perfect start to get you thinking about where you want your 2022 style to go.
Who are your fashion icons?
What items in your closet make you the happiest?
What colors and textures are you typically drawn to?
What body parts do you enjoy highlighting with your clothing?
What do you hope to portray to the world through your style?
Do the items in your closet match the style you’re going for in 2022?
If you’re feeling super ambitious be sure to check out last year’s January issue of Fete Lifestyle Magazine to read all about My Favorite Closet Organization Tools and 2020’s January Issue to read about my Closet Cleanse Tricks from A Stylist. Or contact me and let me do all of the hard work for you!
And finally, start a Pinterest or Instagram fashion mood board. This is a great way to get your January style juices flowing and begin to be inspired by pieces in your existing wardrobe that you can make work in fresh new ways heading into the new year.
I hope you are able to find the time to enjoy the down time of January and start setting yourself up for success this year with a newly energized sense of fashion and a cleansed mind when it comes to where you want your wardrobe to take you this year.
Cheers to a relaxing, inspiring and fashionable start to 2022!
