everyone. I suffered from my own eating disorder in 2018 and because my closest loved ones understood me well, they started identifying patterns and helped me break some destructive habits and cycles. I still have those demons come out from time to time, and they amplify when I’m in bouts of anxiety.
As a business, it’s critical that we meet our customers, prospective or otherwise, where they are. At Society Nine, we really care about providing tools that enable them to unlock their power in mind, body and soul. We won’t tell you want to do, or how you should be, or how you should look. We want to
celebrate YOU, and how powerful you inherently are. How they choose to do that, and what their goals are, are
theirs to choose - but for us, we care most about enabling that access, access to that greater power within each of us. We just happen to do that through our products, which inherently are tools, and through our community of customers.
SD: Would you like to take a stab at the future and make any predictions about the wellness or fitness industry going into next year, considering the virus and everything else? What about women’s health, combat sports, or boxing in particular?
LL: I think the wellness and fitness industry is going to have a weird year of recovery, mourning the loss of the fitness communities and small businesses we lost, while also
celebrating the survivors and rejoicing in training together, in person, again (assuming vaccine rollout is a success, and the virus infection numbers and deaths quell.) But ultimately, economically speaking, I think the industry will largely survive by the sheer fact that people made meaningful investments in wellness for their mental sanity during the pandemic. Boxing fitness in particular is going to become more and more part of the normal fitness industry lexicon - it’s no longer going to be a question of whether boxing fitness is too niche or not, its incorporation into other fitness modalities or gym studio offerings is going to become more prevalent in years to come.
For Society Nine, we’re expanding our product line with a brand new sportswear line, new footwear, and completely new designs of our boxing glove. It’ll be scattered throughout the year, but we’ve been working really hard to pull off some of the new stuff and we are so incredibly excited to let it out into the world.
