1.Invitations

It’s all about the buzz. The first thing that people will notice is the invitation. Whether you’re sending an invitation by snail mail or via email you want your invited guests to get the sense that they MUST attend your party. Wording for the invite is essential. Be sure to be descriptive, but also a little mysterious and secretive. Let them know that they’re in for a fantastic time, but don’t over sell. I always like to under promise and over deliver. The invite doesn’t have to provide specifics, but guests should know the basics such as attire, whether or not that there will be food, cocktails, music and any thing else that will help them to prepare. However be stingy on details surrounding other special elements. Don’t forget to create a visual stimulating invitation that will capture their attention. Choose a personal photo that could perfectly describe your event or create your own design. Online event invitation sites like Paperless Post and Evite can help get you started.

2.Guest List

Who you invite to your party is probably the most essential part of having a great event. However you have to know the type of vibe you want to create and then draft your guest list accordingly. I have friends in many different circles that can adapt to any environment, but some of them…not so much. Knowing that your party may get a little “crazy” may lead you to consider dropping your most conservative friends from the guest list. Being in a situation where your guests are out of their element and uncomfortable wouldn’t make for a good friendship down the road. Don’t feel like you’re being mean if you don’t send them an invite, but consider it a favor. Also be sure to have a good mix of people, especially if it’s a singles party. Too many of either one sex could leave a lot of folks on the outside looking in, which is never a good thing.
