For $90 my work product dramatically improved. That was a cost of doing business I was willing to absorb
8. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR HOME OFFICE REGULARLY
It is your job to stay in their heads. It is much simpler to for a manager to walk down the hall and hand an assignment to someone in the office. Keep in regular communication – without being annoying – with those that may give you assignments. I like to check in via email weekly to let them know I am free for new assignments. I also travel to the actual office site every few months and make a point to spend a day or two working in the office. Lunch meetings while in town are another great way to keep your relationships ongoing.
9. HAVE A BACK UP PLAN
Your remote job is never guaranteed. I never knew it was even possible to work remotely as an attorney. I would travel and always envy the techies that had the corner on the market. Remote work for attorneys is extremely uncommon so I enjoy the benefits it allows me day by day. If the market slows down, contract attorneys are usually the first to go. So it is essential you have a backup plan in place to continue to earn income.
10. BE GRATEFUL
Probably the most important lesson I can share is –Be Grateful! I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to live in and travel to beautiful and fascinating places all over the world and be able to support myself in a meaningful way. I regularly express this gratitude to those that have put their trust in me and my work. Those especially that reminded me to be grateful for my law degree even when I thought I was ready to throw it away. Gratitude practice. I remind myself to be grateful every day as I wake up to the sounds of the surf or monkeys, or to a view of a volcano, or to a comfy cushion at the little space I create for meditation everywhere I go. To fully enjoy the benefits, as well as endure the burdens, it is essential you find your own way to acknowledge your gratitude in some form of regular practice.
