WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Choose one of 13 permitted reasons to travel to Cuba.
Book your flight through an airline that automatically includes Proof of Travel/International Health Insurance such as American Airlines.
Apply for a Tourist Card through the airlines.
Book an Airbnb (most hotels are off-limits).
Bring mostly Euros and some small denominations of US dollars (as our credit cards aren’t accepted).
Travel Form must be completed no more than 48 hours before departure.
Passport must have 2 blank pages and not expire within 6 months.
Bring items to donate such as art and school supplies.
Trade a professional sports team hat or jersey for some Cuban apparel.
WHILE YOU’RE THERE
A tourist tax may be needed to exit Cuba ($84 Euros).
Purchase an internet card at an ETECSA Store for $5.00, giving you 5 hours of internet access.
Purchase an MLC Card (like a prepaid Visa) with Euros at a bank so you can shop at stores that only accept a card/tarjeta.
Do not exchange more than $20 of Euros or US dollars for CUCs/CUPs, the Cuban Peso (both still used even though most information says they are not).
Be prepared to disconnect as wi-fi, texting, and calls can be a challenge.
Do not put razors, nail files, or tweezers in your carryon to come back to the US.
You may have to pay a small tax for any artwork you bring back.
It’s incredibly safe!
