e all want to be

inspired. Feel

inspired. Be

motivated. Aside from setting my own personal and professional goals, motivation for me comes from many different places such as the stories of those that have overcome significant struggles to survive, first responders risking their lives to save others, and teachers going above and beyond to help their students succeed. I know our society puts millionaires, billionaires, and celebrities on a pedestal and makes it seem like that’s what we should all aspire to become, but I respect the journey that a person had to travel that led them to success. My favorite TV show to watch is Shark Tank, not just because I’m an entrepreneur, but I love learning how someone started with just an idea and then turned it into something great, especially when they didn’t have deep pockets backing them. Watching people being able to do the most with less is what I respect more than someone that really didn’t have to risk much to begin with.

We may feel empowered once we’ve overcome a huge barrier in our lives. Whether it’s a major or minor obstacle, gaining the confidence to take on whatever challenges that may come our way develops one day at a time. This month we have stories of empowerment that will surely inspire you. We highlight women that have conquered illness and are now paying it forward. I’m honored to share these stories with our readers, and I hope that you also become inspired because of them.

I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight Black History Month. Growing up as a kid, schools didn’t teach us much about black history aside from Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman, so when my 4th grader is now able to educate me on prominent black achievers that he learned about in his class, which I knew nothing about, I consider that significant progress. Some people may not understand the importance of inclusion, but they are probably the folks that have never been excluded. So, I tip my hat to all those people, black, brown, and white that are making a difference to highlight Black History around the world. Enjoy FLM February.
