“The Assistant” is already in theaters and expanding throughout the month of February. Writer/director Kitty Green takes us into the toxic and abusive corporate world run by a media mogul, but instead of witnessing the uncomfortable situations, we walk in the shoes of Jane (Julia Garner), a bright young girl who has obtained a coveted entry-level position. Working herself ragged to prove her worth she wrestles with the moral obligation to reveal the true nature of her boss or keeping her mouth shut to move up the ladder. It’s a unique take on the #MeToo movement, placing responsibility on those around the perpetrator. It’s a haunting film with understated and finely tuned performances pitting morality against personal gain.

“Miss Americana” one of the opening night films at Sundance is already available on Netflix. The Taylor Swift documentary shines a personal light on the talented young woman who found fame at a very early age. Whether you’re a fan or not, the story allows us to understand her creative origins, her sense of family, and her decisions about politics and fame as it endears us to her.

Also on Netflix beginning February you can see “Horse Girl” starring Alison Brie and on February 28, Benh Zeitlin’s (“Beasts of the Southern Wild” 2012) will make its theatrical debut. And put “The Climb” on your radar as it opens on March 20th.
