DIY.
While the benefits of facilitated events curated to build your synergies with those outside your own network are undeniable, consider whether you can build your own informal mastermind. Your own personal board of directors, or knights of the kitchen table. Who do you have in your life who could work with you on your professional sense of self, while also understanding your physical and mental world? Set regular times when you can come together to share strategies, ideas, failures, and problems. Make attendance compulsory (within reason) to maximize every member’s engagement and set an agenda to ensure the goal of the gathering is not lost as sometimes it can be with a gathering of friends. After all, coming together with others who have similar enterprises, problems, and successes, is centuries, if not millennia, old. Reach out to some friends and see what magic you can create. The success might not parallel the higher-level organized events, but the benefits of a “Do It Yourself” mastermind still outweigh any costs.
