He loves me, he love me not

Hello February! The month of lovers and ... haters. Valentine's, Galentine's and Anti-Valentine's Days are here in full force. No longer is this month just about chocolates and roses and that romantic "one" day of the year. A simple google search allows you to find creative ways to say I love you, I hate you and I never needed you anyway. One of my favorites is a museum in Boston that lets you name a cockroach after your ex. Or volunteering at a dog shelter to enjoy all the puppy love you can handle.

But what happens when your loved one completely misses the boat and either forgets Valentine's Day altogether, or his or her efforts simply don't measure up to the ideal you've placed, misdirected or not, on how love should look as defined by Hallmark?

Not surprisingly, there is a lot of research on this topic. First, more men would rather have sex then receive a gift. Big surprise, right? But guess what fellas, you are not alone. A certain leading cheater hookup site lists February 15th as the day membership spikes 40% for women seeking affairs because they are disillusioned by their partner's lackluster romantic efforts. Private security companies see an uptick in surveillance and tracking technology in the two weeks before, to few days after the 14th, claiming dissatisfied partners look to clandestine methods to catch a suspected cheating spouse in act.

For partners that do try, garnering a restaurant reservation on this highly sought after "date night" can be tough, especially for the last minute or afterthought types. On a more positive note, gone are the days single women have to feel left out. Growing in popularity are girl themed nights out and meet ups celebrating Galentine's Day on February 13th. Yes, it is a thing, and it works whether you’re married or single. There are even "hater" themed nights at bars for those that refuse to get drawn in to the commercialized pseudo holiday.

Wherever you fall into the love, hate or don't have a date, there really is something for everyone. Try to remember, it is simply one day of the year, no more important than another.
