ou’ve heard the songs. Prince wants to be the only one that makes you come…RUNNIN’. Stevie takes on “part-time” duties claiming undercover passion on the run, while television characters Mary Jane Paul (Being Mary Jane) and Samantha Jones (Sex and the City) bring the erotic and sometimes neurotic fantasy into our living rooms. What am I talking about? A lover.

Yes L-O-V-E-R. That person with whom you share stolen moments and a magnetic chemistry, bringing pleasure by their conversation, companionship, sense of humor and good looks coupled with major sexual heat in the bedroom. Who, when the rendezvous is over, there are no plans to meet the parents, pick up dry-cleaning or have “the talk”. Instead, each person blissfully retreats to their respective home without the pressure of commitment or expectations of domesticity.

What once seemed reserved for the likes of Madonna, Angelina, Cher and Marilyn, has become a preferred choice for some every day women as well, who are openly choosing a lover(s) over traditional relationships. Believe it or not, many single, successful women desire great sex, selective companionship, passion and fun with a trusted partner, without the permanence of commitment. While many people are quick to judge the idea of a lover, the motivations for many women making the choice stems from a place of empowerment and freedom and are not a by product of low self-esteem or deep seated emotional baggage requiring psychotherapy or better yet, an exorcism.
