ew faces. New voices. That’s what the 2019 Sundance Film Festival supports and thanks to these endeavors, the films at this year’s festival represented this. Women occupied 45% of the directors’ seats and filmmakers from underrepresented groups were much more prominent. But what ties all of the films together is the basic, underlying criteria--tell a good story well.
The Sundance Film Festival’s programs such as Ignite, which helps talent from the next generation of filmmakers hone their skills, and the Indigenous Program, which celebrates the storytelling of indigenous artists from around the world, ensure that filmmakers who represent us all will be able to share their stories. Gone are the days where all films are created by white males. Today we welcome new days ahead where everyone’s story can be told.
