Yes, I can go along with February being a month of love, but not solely to having a romantic partner to share it with. Yes, we love our partners (for those who have them), our families, and our friends. However, there are many other things that we love, our hobbies, activities, interests. We should also focus on the things we love to do for ourselves and can include loved ones in the plans. I have a love of travel. I spend time in February planning most of my trips for the year. My plan is always a guideline for me because things can come up, such as a seat sale where I change my flight dates or add a new place. Last November I found a seat sale from Barcelona, Spain to Milan, Italy for 5 Euro. So off to Milan I went two weeks later. It was my third trip to Italy, but I had not been to Milan. I could not turn down a one-way ticket at this price. I spent a couple of nights in Milan and a couple of nights in Como. Then I took the train to Florence for five days. It was a lovely trip, and I was able to meet up with some friends I had not seen in a long time.

I love to discover new places, meet new friends, try new dishes, uncover hidden gems, and photograph stunning architecture and the gorgeous nature we have around the world. One impossible question to answer that I am often asked is, “what place do you love the most?” On this list, I would have to include the places I lived. I’m from Canada and have to say the Canadian Rocky Mountains are stunning. The downfall for me is Canada is too cold, and winter is too long. Regarding the tropics, I lived in Costa Rica for four years. The weather is terrific; it’s always hot. The beaches are beautiful and all the national parks are magnificent. For me, it was not an ideal place to live as a single female. Currently, home is Barcelona, Spain. The city has so much to offer. From beaches to a happening nightlife, from old architecture to new buildings, and expats from all over the world. The negative aspects are last year's terrorist attacks and the more recent Catalan Independence movement.

There is no perfect place to live for me, but some of my other favorite places are Dublin, Ireland and Prague, Czech Republic. After spending a month in Dublin, it would have been a contender for a place for me to live, but the weather for me is not great. Prague is a romantic city. I have been there twice, both solo trips, and I love the city and people. Additionally, I would have to say Italy. I have been there three times now, and I’m never disappointed. All the towns, beaches, food and wine … I love the country.

I enjoy the month of February planning to do things I love to do throughout the year. This year I will see more of Europe and will go to Africa for the first time. Why just focus on one day this month when you can spend more time planning to do things you love to do throughout the year? To me, that is true love. Fairy tale, everlasting love.
