The three-day Rajasthan Heritage Week showcased, celebrated and honoured the excruciating labour of award-winning weavers from the deepest alcoves of Rajasthan and the cutting-edge modern design by Abraham Thakore, Raghavendra Rathore, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Hemant Trevedi, Rohit Bal, Wendell Rodricks, Rohit Kamra, Bibi Russell, Ajai Vir Singh and several others! In other words, a testament to the beauty of the state's artisanal textiles and the ease with which Indian and International designers crafted modern collections from heritage textiles and showcased it on the same platform as weavers. ''Continued recognition of weavers and renewing their skill in a contemporary fashion keeps textile craft relevant. Weaving, embroideries, hand block printing and tie dye comes under the umbrella of bespoke luxury in today's world of mass production. It is our responsibility to give it life for future generations'' explains Padma Bhushan awardee, designer Ritu Kumar, whose collection in the first edition of Rajasthan Heritage Week was an instant sell-out!
