The finale is for the beloved red. In all fairness, to single out a specific splurge red wine, is almost impossible for me to do. But a treat wine would definitely include Mr. Alfred Tesseron’s Chateau Pontet Canet from the Pauillac region of Bordeaux. Certified in 2008 as organic and biodynamic, his wines continue to gain praise and applause from the vinous elite. Although the ‘hot’ vintages of 2009 and 2010 command deep pockets, other vintages can show what many find as a great deal for such a blockbuster Bordeaux. The co-star yet again hails from California (keep in mind no duty or overseas shipping costs keep the wines of the US at the best deal for North Americans). Duckhorn Decoy from the Sonoma Coast, a cooler climate than some of the other regions of California, delivers a Bordeaux blend that shows power and finesse, with a lot more than the $25 price tag would predict.
