We made it! We got through another year that I hope was better for everyone than the previous. Although 2021 still had its many challenges with the pandemic, at least we were able to experience some sense of normalcy. Personally, seeing my kids get back to school full-time was big relief. Although they still have to wear masks in the classroom, at least they’re able to interact with their teachers and friends in person and not through a screen.
The holidays prompt me to reflect on my life over the past twelve months and this year I saw my oldest son become a teenager, my youngest hitting the double-digit mark, and both getting straight A’s. Yes, I’m a very proud dad, but damn time flies! Even with Covid-19 looming over us, we were fortunate to travel a little this past year and continued making lasting family memories. I really got into biking outside over the summer taking advantage of the many bike paths that Chicago has to offer and was able to work off a lot of the 20 pounds I put on during the pandemic. I had a ton of fun coaching my kids football teams this past fall as we were able to bounce back from not winning a game or scoring a point the first 5 games to making the playoffs. Yes, I was a proud coach too! All in all, 2021 was a pretty good year with many lessons learned.
As we look towards 2022, I hope that whatever inspires you will dominate your day, whatever discourages you will eventually go away, and whatever keeps you smiling will continue to come your way. Celebrate hard with your family and friends and count your blessings. Enjoy you holiday and have a Happy New Year!
