MARY POPPINS RETURNS:
Whether you’re young or
old or anything in
between, you’re going to
enjoy this sequel to the
original “Mary Poppins”
from 1964. The newest
rendition stars Emily Blunt
as Mary Poppins and Lin-
Manuel Miranda as Jack, her
helpful handyman. With catchy
new numbers, dazzling
choreography, and a mind-blowing combination of animation and live action, this magical, old-fashioned story is an energetic and entertaining one for the whole family. (In theaters Dec. 19)
VICE: Adam McKay, who gave us “The Big Short,” is back in the writer’s and director’s chair to tell the life story of one of the most influential vice presidents in history, Dick Cheney. With an all-star cast including Christian Bale who transforms himself into the middle-aged, less-than-health conscious politician and Sam Rockwell who appears to be George W. Bush’s doppleganger, McKay has a larger than life undertaking with this endeavor, but if it’s anything like his most recent film, McKay will be up for the challenge. (In theaters Dec. 25)
ON THE BASIS OF SEX: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg has been the topic of the award-winning and highly recommended documentary film “RBG” as well as now being the centerpiece of the biographical drama “On the Basis of Sex” starring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer. Director Mimi Leder takes on history to retell Justice Ginsberg’s story as she becomes the leader in the quest for equal rights. (In theaters Dec. 24)
