LA LA LAND: The buzz has been loud about Damien Chazelle’s (“Whiplash”) daring attempt at bringing musicals back to the silver screen. “La La Land,” starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as struggling talents in Los Angeles, sing and dance their way into each other’s hearts. It’s a bold and vivid Old Hollywood film that works, even with its fantastical sequences. Although the singing and dancing isn’t exactly Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, the acting and story-line more than make up for this. “La La Land” is good old-fashioned filmmaking fun.
