Turning a Side Hustle into a Real Business

A Finance Pro’s Journey
e’ve all met
someone who
loves their
job—and maybe you’ve felt a little jealous too. I know I have. While I’ve had fulfilling moments, I’ve often found myself wondering: what if I built something of my own. I have learned a lot from all my professional experiences of what I like doing, so I took that knowledge and decided to build a side hustle. Do I want the side hustle to turn into something that could support me and my family full time? Absolutely, but I am not willing to give up a steady paycheck and benefits until the side hustle is making full hustle money.
Balancing a full-time job with a side hustle means working more hours, period. Before I dove in, I took a hard look at my weekly schedule. Could I realistically carve out time? What would I be giving up—and was I okay with that? I asked myself the hard questions - do I have time to build out this new role for myself? What would I be giving up to make this new business venture a reality? How much money will I need to invest in myself and this new business before I would ever see any revenue? How much “free” work will I invest in?
