HIGHLAND PARK STRONG
On July 29th, 2022, early afternoon, I was headed back to Chicago after an assignment photographing a group of rambunctious children at a lakeside home when I passed the Highland Park sign on Route 41. I gulped, turned around and headed East into town. Business as usual. Parked, I came across a tangle of neatly tied orange ribbons, notes, and string dangled, wrapped, and tied all over the brick shelter on the Southeast side of Central Ave. and the tracks. Healing artist project building bridges and visions between two different communities. Artist portrait. Lots to consider. My gulp turned to tears. With weight on my heart, I wandered and captured a few images of the bits and pieces. Citizens. Ground. Memories. Stones. Signs. Memorials. Flowers. Families. Prayers. Spirit heavy traffic steady.
